Grounds & Horticulture – UAA/FM&O

The UAA Grounds and Horticulture Team are full-time equipment operators, horticulturists and arborists that maintain over 384 acres of lawn, trees, flowers, hardscape and wild lands within Dena'ina Ełnena. We keep your shared outdoor spaces safe, accessible, healthy and attractive.

Our team is passionate about people and the outdoors. We manage snow and ice; keep parking lots and bus stops looking their best; steward the largest collection of tree species in Southcentral Alaska; grow 3,000+ annual flowers; mow acres of lawn; keep 380+ interior plants healthy; and share knowledge with our campus community and industry partners.

UAA Community Gardens

COMING SOON: UAA Community Garden and Orchard

During the 2024 summer season, Grounds (with funding support from the UAA Green Fee board) built out a 60x100’ community garden space on empty land north of the Engineering Garage. The garden, fully-fenced to protect plants from moose, will eventually hold 10 raised beds and a variety of fruit trees and shrubs. Stay tuned for information on how to participate in summer 2025!
